Day 23 - 68 Days to the end of the Project - Monday 14th January

As we start a new week, I want to tell you about a book I read over the weekend, Winning is Not Enough, the Autobiography of F1 three times world champion, Jackie Stewart. The book is fantastic and well worth a read, and the words Passion in Action sums it up perfectly. That’s what this project is; Millioneurosin90days raising awareness about Fairtrade and Environmental Issues is in my mind a “Passion in Action”.

Day 20 - 71 Days to the end of the Project - Wednesday 9th January

I was introduced to a New Fairtrade Cola today called “Ubuntu”. It’s the first Fairtrade Cola on the UK Market which is made from Fairtrade Sugar. The sugar comes Kasinthula in Malawi, Africa. This means that every time you drink an Ubuntu Cola you are directly taking part in the Fairtrade Movement. I must admit it tastes really great, try some for yourselves.

Hi everyone, Happy New Year. After a two week break for the festive holidays its now non stop to the end of the Project. Just 73 Days to go excluding weekends, and to reach this mighty task of getting that 1 Million Euros. I then intend to add this amount to all previous amounts rose since I started the Project and finally have the final total, 1 year from the beginning of my idea. As you may know all this is being filmed and then once the project ends, we go off and film exactly how the money is to be used, including a trip to Africa, the plan of offering money to charities who help the kind of people who grow products which are used to make Fairtrade Products. This whole project is raise awareness about Fairtrade and Environmental Issues. Please support by advertising your business website on the homepage of this project. Day 14 - 77 Days to the end of the Project - Tuesday 11th December

I plan to visit the States early next year, but when I went for the first time, a few months ago, I had this image of huge cars, gas guzlers, this image came from films from the 60’s and 70’s, however when I got to San Francisco, I was surprised to see quite modest sized vehicles. Very like the UK, and clearly more economic to run, and better for the environment. This project will be partly made up of an environmental project, where I hope to design and build an eco friendly Fairtrade Store using all the latest environmentally friendly ideas.

Day 4 - 87 Days to the end of the Project - Thursday 29th November

Over the past year Fairtrade Foundation (UK) Executive Director, Harriet Lamb has been working with Ebury Publishing to write her story of how Fairtrade has got to where it is today. Fighting the Banana Wars and Other Fairtrade Battles (RRP £ 10.99) will be published on 7th February 2008. The book charts the heroic struggle of the early years to get new Fairtrade Products like bananas onto supermarket shelves, and celebrates the success of the Fairtrade Towns network in raising awareness of Fairtrade across the UK, all set against a background of farmers in the field and supermarket executives in the boardroom. Available in all good bookstores…

Re. Millioneurosin90days project, well I have been working late into the evening recently contacting the US. With the time difference, especially on the West Coast. Day 3 - 88 Days to the end of the Project - Wednesday 28th November

As you may know if you have been reading my Blogs since this project started. I aim to raise as much as possible by the 9th March 2008, with half the funds going to charities that help developing countries, especially those that provide fresh drinking water and sanitation. One such Charity that does a fantastic job is called Find Your Feet. You can see their website on my homepage; this was put on free as are some other sites, simply because I want to help raise the profile of these worthwhile operations. The Charity Find Your Feet produces a regular newsletter called ‘Footprints’. In the autumn edition it talks about Organic Farming. ‘What a difference a year makes’. This time last year, Gladys Kadziwe was facing some difficult decisions. Having suffered an unsuccessful harvest, how was she going to feed her family over the coming months? Without the income from her harvest, would she have to sacrifice buying soap to be able to afford school books? Between December and February every year 90% of households in Phambala, Malawi have no food left from their own farms. Living in Phambala where droughts are common and soil fertility is poor, Gladys has become used to coping with these stark challenges but they never become any easier. This year, 2007, things are different. Smiling broadly, Gladys tells how she has grown enough food to last the whole year. She has even produced a surplus to sell so that she can afford those family essentials. ‘Farming organically means I grow more food, save money and improve the fertility of the soil ‘.

What has made the difference? According to Gladys it is the low cost environmentally-friendly farming practices she has learnt from FYF partner, the Lipangwe Organic Manure Demonstration Farm (LOMADEF).  Gladys has learnt skills like composting, crop diversification, organic pesticide production, seed multiplication and agro-forestry. In an area where farmers struggle to produce enough to feed their families for more than six months, LOMADEF’s agricultural techniques that boost harvests, improve nutrition and rebuild the soil are helping to transform family’s futures.Source’Footprints’

Day 2 - 89 Days to the end of the Project - Tuesday 27th November

One of the websites on the homepage is a company called Imporient. I use this company for my Fair Trade Store, supplying me with my Fairtrade Tea.  Imporient Premium Fairtrade Leaf Tea produces a Strong, Bright, and Golden Tea full of Flavour. Imporient only selects Teas grown at 2000 + meters above sea level. The Temperature at this altitude is relatively low and as a result the tea leaves grow at a slower rate allowing more time for the tea to absorb more nutrients from the soil, sunlight and rain. These ideal climatic conditions are major reasons why Imporient Premium Fairtrade tea has exceptional brightness and flavour. Imporient buys the very best Fairtrade tea helping to ensure that tea estates receive a good price for their tea. TheFairtrade premium is invested in community development projects chosen by the farmers and workers. The farmers and workers decide how to invest this additional money in their local community, on education, clean water supplies, health care and other vital facilities. Tea Myths and Facts : Myth : Tea is dehydrating, Fact : Tea is dehydrating, not dehydrating, in fact due to the volume of fluid that is drunk whilst enjoying a ‘cuppa’, the British Dietetic Association advises that tea can contribute to the daily - recommended intake of 1.5 to 2 litres of water.

Day 1 - 90 Days to the end of the Project - Mon 26th November

Here we go the very final part of this project connected to the fund rising. I aim to raise 1 MILLION EUROS, that’s £700 000 or $1.5 Dollars in just 90 DAYS, excluding Sundays. The finish date is Saturday 9th March 2008. That’s the last day of the UKs Fairtrade Weekend Promotion period for 2008. Also it will be one year since I started this project by raising funds. I will add this amount to the I Million Euros at the end of the project. I hope to have risen allot of money for these causes.  I plan to have a big celebration in London on the last day. Lots of publicity for Fairtrade and your websites. Help me to achieve this goal by supporting my project. Let me add your website to the projects home page. I will be entering my daily Blog every single day to keep you all up to date as to how I am doing.  I will also record the total miles in various travel by car train plane ferry etc then I will offset at the end of the project.

Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic said, “Virgin recognises how important it is for all companies to understand the impact of the products they use, both on the environment and on the people producing them. It is going along way to end rural poverty. One country they are working in is Malawi, in Africa. One in seven adults in Malawi is infected with HIV and AIDS. The burden on families and the isolation HIV and AIDS causes can be overwhelming. I have been to San Francisco in July, The South of France and Italy in September the Hawaiian Islands in June and Austria in the snows of winter. I have managed to meet fellow store owners who promote Fairtrade and I have gained an important insight in to how they sell Fairtrade. Thursday 18th October

As you may know. I want to raise more awareness about Fairtrade and the connection with Environmental Issues. There is where I live a Charity called the Footprint Trust. I was filmed by the Production Company this summer talking to Ray who heads the Trust here on the Island about off-setting CO2 emissions. It was his suggestion that I donate funds to developing countries, which could in turn develop better ways of getting their energy sources, other than from fossil fuels. They could use, Wind Power, Wave Power or Solar Power, all environmentally friendly. So my project will do exactly that. I want to raise as much money as possible, so that I can donate half to Charities working in the developing countries, supplying Fresh Drinking Water and Sanitation. The remaining half of the money raised will be used for the Environmental Part of the Project including designing a new eco friendly Fairtrade Store. I will calculate my total CO2 emissions through out the entire project, and donate to countries in the developing world in technology to allow them to make safe environmental differences in the way they get their energy.

Once this happens, and then I want to film how I use the funds, possibly going to Africa or Asia to see for myself what good work there is to do along with my donation. The other part of the project, the environmental part will also start in Mid January with talks about how the plans for the new eco Fairtrade Store will be designed. 69 Days to go - Monday 8th October

This project is about Fairtrade and Environmental issues. Half the funds are going to Charities working in developing countries with the aim of supplying Fresh drinking Water and Sanitation. Today I discovered an interesting project that is up and running in India. It’s called the Barefoot College.

THE BAREFOOT APPROACH IN BHUTAN

Thirty women from Bhutan left their villages for the first time in August this year to travel to India, to become solar engineers. These Bhutanese women, between the ages of 20-40 years, will be trained at the Barefoot College to become barefoot solar engineers. On completion of their training, the women will be provided with solar units and equipment to establish rural electronic workshops, where repair and maintenance will be carried out. The Barefoot Solar Engineers will be paid by each community to maintain the solar units. Nearly 500 families in 28 villages will be slar-electrified by March 2008, when the Barefoot Solar Engineers return to their communities to install and maintain the solar power systems. Most of these remote, rural communities are 4- 5 hours walk from the nearest road, making it far too costly to solar electrify these communities by conventional grids. The Projects in Bhutan are funded by the Asian Development Bank. A similar scheme is now working in the Gambia, Africa.

The Weekend

I am working at my Caffe-Society store on Saturday, and then intend to relax on Sunday, by getting up very early to see if Lewis hamilton will succeed in scoring enough points to win the F1 championship for 2007.

Update- He has not, infact he did not finish, his tyres were so worn that he slid off going into the pits for new tyres. It is very sad, however, he can still do it because in 2 weeks they go to Brazil where the last race of the year will be held. Fingers crossed.

68 Day to go - Wednesday 3rd Oct

I mentioned recently that I have visited France. On this occasion, because of a time element, I took a flight, from my local Airport- Southampton. The Airline I used is called Flyby, and they now claim to be one of the most environmentally friendly airlines around. After 2 years and a £2 billion investment, in 74 new environmentally sensitive aircraft, Flyby has become the world’s first airline to introduce an innovative ecolabelling scheme. With more people flying than ever before, whether for business, holiday or part of the jet to let boom, the flip side is that humn activity including aviation has an impact on the environment. The UK government’s response to talk of carbon footprints and climate change was to hit passengers in their pockets. Last year passenger duty was increased by £5-£10 ($8-$20) for short haul and up to £ 80 ($120) for long haul. But this does not solve the problem of the impact of air travel on the environment. That’s why Flyby has decided to take the initiative with measures designed to make a difference.

The ECO LABELLING SCHEME - Under the scheme which was subject to an assurance process by International Consultancy firm Deloitte, Flyby passengers booking via the internet will be provided with a detailed but user friendly breakdown of the fuel consumption, carbon emissions and noidse patterns of the aircraft type to be used on their journey. Each aircraft’s eco label is broken down onto three parts.

Local Environment which assesses the aircraft’s noise rating on an A (low) to F (high) rating and the levels of CO2 (carbon dioxide) and NOX (nitrogen oxide) emissions on a Landing and Take Off cycle basis.

Journey Environment which grades fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (kg/seat) on a range of typical European sector basis (500, 1000 and 1500 km) and also on an A (low) to F (high) grading.

Passenger Environment which contains information on minimum leg room and the number of seats.

The eco labelling scheme allows passengers to asses the environmental impact of their journey so they can decide, on an informed basis, whether they want to carbon offset that journey.

Quoting the Flyby In-flight magazine this month, October 2007 - The new eco-label is more than an energy rating. Flyby wanted to consider the effects on passenger and local environments as well as the planet and the three sections of the label reflect this. The local environment section is about how the areas around the airports are effected. This looks at take off and landing emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide, which can effect air quality and noise. The journey environment includes data for the entire flight. It shows the total fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Every label provides a rating for the journey environment for three lengths of flights: domestic, such as Birmingham to Edinburgh, near EU such as Birmingham to Bergerac and short haul such as Birmingham to Milan. The passenger environment consists of a number of seats and the seat pitch, which is the space between seats. This is about passenger comfort level, but it’s also relevant because some of the data on the eco-label is given in a per passenger measure. The same type of aircraft with different seat pitches will give a different per passenger measure. To ensure the ratings were an accurate comparison, we didn’t just look at the data from Flyby aircraft. We compared the data across a large population of aircraft used across all the UK airlines, from the smallest twin-turbo prop plane to a Boeing 747-400, and across a range of routes up to long haul. When designing the eco-label we wanted to make it easy to understand, so we based it on energy labels used in household appliances. However, unlike those, we decided not to produce an overall grade. That’s because one of the elements we wanted to make clear was the figure of carbon dioxide emissions so the passengers would be able to see exactly how much they’d need to offset, if they chose to do so.

VERIFIABLE LOW-COST CARBON OFFSET PROGRAMMES - To help passengers in carbon offsetting, Flyby Airline has appointed “PURE”, the Clean Planet trust, to operate verifiable carbon-offset schemes on behalf of its passengers- the first major UK low cost airline to offer such a scheme.

PURE will operate two schemes for Flyby:

A Carbon credits based scheme, under which carbon credits will be traded on the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS)

A grant scheme under which PURE will make direct contributions to a broad range of small scale carbon-reducing projects, for instance the installation of renewable energy in schools.

If you want to check your own carbon footprint, visit www.puretrust.org

69 Days to go- Tuesday 2nd October

I have been in my Caffe-Society Fairtrade Store this morning, and again I am surprised how many people do not know about Fairtrade.

What is Fairtrade? Many farmers and workers in developing countries struggle to provide for their families. Poor market access and unfair trade rules often mean that the price they get for their crop does not cover the cost of production. Fairtrade is a rapidly growing international movement which seeks to guarantee a better deal for farmers and workers in the developing world. A product that is Fairtrade certified carries a label The Fairtrade Mark.

Who is behind Fairtrade? The Fairtrade Foundation is the independent certification body in the UK, the US has Transfair. These bodies award the Fairtrade Mark to products which meet Fairtrade standards. The Foundation is part of an international network of 20 organisations that are members of the standards setting and certification body Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO).

Are all Fairtrade Products Organic? Some Fairtrade certified products also carry organic certification labels such as the Soil Association label. Many producers seek to use organic practices, but Fairtrade does not require them to do so. Under Fairtrade standards, producer groups are requested to minimise the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and implement environmental protection projects.

Where Can I buy them? You can find products carrying the FAIRTRADE Mark in supermarkets, local shops, in cafes, bars and restaurants, health food shops, and fair trade shops., from catering suppliers, by mail order and online.

Change to Fairtrade!

Try It - With over 2000 products available from single origin coffee to delicious chocolate and fashionable cotton T shirts, change your everyday products to Fairtrade today.

Promote It- Introduce your friends to a Fairtrade product, Say Thank you with a bunch of Fairtrade Flowers, bring a bottle of Fairtrade Wine to a dinner party or make a refreshing cup of Fairtrade tea.

Find out more! Visit the many companies who have websites, look under Google or other search engine providers, or take a look at my home page” Millioneurosin90days.com.

The Fairtrade Premium is the key. It allows us to plan for the future, the voice of a grower in Tanzania.

By changing to Fairtrade certified products you can make a real difference to the lives of workers and farmers in developing countries. As well as guaranteeing producer organisations a fair stable price for their products that covers the cost of production, they also receive a social premium, extra money that has to be spent on community projects. For instance, in Tanzania, tea pickers have chosen to spend the social premium to set up shop selling affordable food for their families. Now they want to invest in building materials to improve their homes.

I thought today I would explain what I think are the benefits of being involved with this great project for potential sponsors. Firstly you should get increased interest in your website because of your presence in being part of this project. This will create awareness in your products and possibly lead to more business. Secondly, I will highlight your site logo with a large pop up banner giving your business website and description. By clicking on your logo the potential customer will directed straight to your homepage. Thirdly, I will enter all your company details onto the Company List also with a link to your website. I will wherever possible include your company name in all future promotion of the project including Pres and Media. Your participation will have a direct benefit to the funding of Charities working in developing countries. Your donation in most cases will benefit from an extra amount through gift aid. And finally the whole project will create more awareness about Fairtrade.

I am staying in Antibes about 10 miles from NICE in the South of France. I have been looking for any outlet that might be connected to a similar scheme of Fairtrade like we have in the UK and US. Alas it seems they are few and far between, however there is some hope as it seems there is a real drive towards improving things regarding environmental issues. Recycling containers are in all the car parks, buses are modern, cheap and fuel efficient. I visited an Yves Rocher shop this afternoon and was told about their ethos. In fact for some years they have been trying to offer a fairer alternative. The Yves Rocher Foundation works towards helping in all four corners of the world. Trying to find alternative to help stop the extinction of plants, animals and various habitats. Some of the countries that are benefiting include, Madagascar,Bhoutan,Equador and Amazonian.

75 Days to go - Monday 24th September

So I am off to France and Italy today for 7 days. The purpose of the visit is to see potential sponsors and do some filming for the project. If you have been promised a call from me, I will be in touch when I return. I have thought about this very carefully and the need to reduce my carbon footprint while getting from A to B. What I have discovered at least in this case is that I have managed to do this and save money and time as well. This is how. As you know having read my Blogs over the months, I live on an Island off the South of England, called the Isle of Wight. Its about 70 miles 100km south of London. In the past I have always taken a flight from London as this seemed to be the only option. To get to a London airport, I have had to take the taxi, train which is some 2 hours plus, then check in 2 hours before. If it is a very early flight, I have to stay overnight in a hotel, more cost. On this occasion I am going to the South of France from Southampton. It takes 20 mins from my house to Cowes, a ferry to Southampton and a 10 min train ride to the airport. I have saved on a hotel, a long train journey or taxi and saved some CO2 emissions. Now I have chosen to fly with an airline called FLYBE. Find out tomorrow why!

76 Days to go - Friday 21st September

Yesterday I spoke about how this project was about making more people aware of Fairtrade. As I said earlier on in this project, half of any funds I raise will go to charities working in the developing world; however the remaining amount will be used for an environmental project. This will take the form of a new eco friendly green Fairtrade store. I want to design and build a store that can offer everything my current store does but with virtually zero emissions of CO2. There are a growing number of new ideas appearing on the market which will help me achieve this. I want to see if it is possible to change an existing store to a new kind of Zero Store and by doing so find out the most cost effective way of applying all the new science without a huge cost. I also want to see if it is possible to reduce my standard costs. The costs involved in lighting, cooking and heating. I plan to film this conversion to enable fellow businesses to take ideas from the project to apply them to their business or home. During the making of this project I plan to calculate how much CO2 was consumed through travel, by car, bus train and planeetc, and then offset it by making a donation to a charity that help developing countries apply their own energy saving ideas. If, for instance they did not use fossil fuels to heat their homes, but used solar or wind power this would benefit the planet. It could be cheaper and easier to do this, by using these alternative forms of power that are all around us.

77 Days to go - Thursday 20th September

This project is about making more people aware of Fairtrade. The ever growing number of products from so many different countries around the world. Also it aims to explain what the word Fairtrade means. When you see the UK’s Fairtrade Foundation Certification on a product you know that this product guarantees to you that the grower has been paid a fair price for their product. This extra income can make all the difference as it could go towards better facilities in the area he/she lives, like a new school or hospital. Better medical care, education or even a better source of fresh drinking water and sanitation. It’s amazing how we seem to take something as simple as a glass of water for granted, when millions of people in developing countries simply can not access this basic requirement.

79 Days to go - Tuesday 18th September

The Low Carbon Lifestyle Tour is taking place at the moment. Mukti Mitchell is sailing around Britain in a zero-emission microyacht to promote a low carbon lifestyle. The tour will visit 40 UK ports including Swansea,Liverpool,Glasgow,Edinburgh,Newcastle,London,Southampton and Exeter. At this present time we are making carbon dioxide faster than plants can turn it back into oxygen. Carbon dioxide goes into the atmosphere and forms a blanket over the planet. When this happens the planet starts to warm up. In turn, Climate Change occurs which could threaten life of all sorts. Rising sea levels, storms, floods, temperature changes. To try to reduce our CO2 you need to firstly see how much we use. If you go to the website www.lowcarbonlifestyle.org, you will find a calculator. At my Caffe Society Fairtrade Store we have started to do our bit, including using low energy light bulbs, washing our linen at 30 degrees, using where possible recycled packaging, staff are shaing lifts to work or using the new low emission bus service here on the Island.

So it is 7 days since the sudden death of Anita Roddick. I remember I was at home on Monday evening, the 10th September and I had 24hr BBC News on when I heard the story. What a shock, a lady who has done so much to highlight a fairer world in business. In an article in a magazine recently Anita Roddickwas asked whether as time goes on will you keep campaigning.”Oh yes - it’s in my DNA. Nobody ants to talk about human rights in garment manufacturing but that’s going to be the big one .You need to get people to understand the story behind what they buy and explain what the real cost of something is. I remember going to a sweatshop in Nicaragua and the women were walking three miles to work everyday. One woman said; whatever you do tell them that all we want is to move from SLAVERY TO POVERTY”

Day 90 -Friday 17th August

Here we are on the last day of the first part of this two part project. I am going to carry on for a further 90days starting on Tuesday 28th August. The plan is to continue to try to raise more funds. Keep reading the Blogs to see what I actually do raise, not just from sponsorship through websites, but by any TV exposure and a possible book of articles that stem from this amazing project.

Day 89 -Thursday 16th August

Well here we are nearly at the end of the first part of the project. It seems to be developing well, and when the TV Production is complete will make a very interesting programme. I am now planning to have next week off and then try to aim to raise more funds for a further 90 days and aim to reach a really high figure. The plan is to do this to add some spice to the show and to allow the charities and other projects to benefit from the possible high returns, so wish me luck.

Wednesday 8th August - Wednesday 15th August

Wednesday 15th August

This project has been amazing, a real experience, and a success in many ways. As you may know the project is being filmed and the plan now being put forward partly by the production company is to continue to raise funds over a further 90 days and possibly aim for twice as much as the original goal. This is very tempting and I will be contacting potential sponsors and companies to see if they would like to join this amazing project and be part of history in raising lots of money for developing countries, like those who produce FAIRTRADE products. Watch this space for the latest update

The Weekend

I have chosen to have a quiet weekend just doing paper work for the project and my Fairtrade Store. All a bit uninteresting really. Looking forward to Monday and talking to more sponsors and businesses.

Friday 10th Aug

I am still amazed at the positive response I get when I tell people what I am trying to do, by raising awareness about Fairtrade and promoting companies that sell these great products. Take a look at the companies already taking part.

Thursday 9th August

A quiet day today, but doing more research about companies who sell and install solar power. This will be useful for the other part of the project linked to environmental issues and the new eco green Fairtrade Store.

Wednesday 8th August

I often asked what is this project about. Well the idea is to raise the profile of Fairtrade Products and to link the connection between developing countries and environmental issues. With this project I want to raise funds to be able to donate half to a Charity that supplies fresh drinking water and sanitation in countries like the ones many Fairtrade Products come from. Also I would like to develop a new eco-green environmental Fairtrade Store which would have all the latest ideas to save energy and promote a greener future. Ideas that could be applied to maybe more high street stores in time. I want to film this being carried out so that maybe in the near future many more people can see how the funds were spent and what the results were.

The Weekend - Day 82- Tuesday 7th August

Day 82- Tuesday 7th August
I was in Denver USA last month and was getting to see for myself of the hot temperatures and read in the local paper - The Rocky Mountain News how best to survive the heat.
Drink more fluids - especially water. Regardless of your activity level and do not wait until you get thirsty.
Do Not Drink Alcohol, or sugary drinks, these cause you to loose body fluids.
Stay Indoors and if possible stay in an air conditioned place
Take a cool shower or bath
Wear Lightweight, light colored loose fitting clothing.
Heat stroke is when the bodies’ temperature rises rapidly, the sweating mechanism fails and the body is unable to cool down. Warning signs are, high body temperature (above 103 degrees) red hot dry skin, rapid and strong pulse and a throbbing headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, unconsciousness. What to do - cool the victim by moving him to shade, placing him in a cool shower, spray with garden hose, and do not give the victim fluids. So beware this summer, mind you while it may be hot in the USA and the Med in Europe we are not getting much of a summer here in the UK.
Remember that as part of my project I intend to raise funds for Find Your Feet who provide fresh drinking water in developing countries, so please support me and allow you and your business website to benefit from my project internet site and the future TV Production being made about my project.

Day 81 - Monday 6th August
As you may know I love cooking, and if you log onto Google and type in “Millioneurosin90days” you will see being filmed in Newport High Street, cooking in front of shoppers, various dishes, all made from many Fairtrade Products.
Well here is an idea I got from a magazine recently which I have tried and is really good. Coffee Cream Bread & Butter Pudding. You need 1/4pt milk, 3/4 pint of fresh double cream, 1 shot of espresso Fairtrade Coffee, 1 Fairtrade Vanilla Pod, 2 Eggs, 5 Yolks, 2oz Unrefined Fairtrade Granulated Sugar, 6 x 1 day old croissants, 4oz unsalted butter, 6oz of Fairtrade raisins. Put the milk, double cream, coffee and vanila pod into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Whisk the eggs, yolks and granulated sugar together. Slice the croissants in half lengthwise. Use 1oz of butter to grease an over proof dish. Using the remaining butter spread this on the cut slices of the croissants. Lay half of them down on the base of the dish, butter side up. Sprinkle with raisins and lay the remaining croissants on top. Let the boiled cream cool a little and pour it on to the egg mixture stirring all the time. Put it back on the heat and stir until it starts to thicken and then take of the heat. Strain half of the cream mixture over the croissants and allow to soak for 15 mins, gradually straining over the rest of the mixture until all is in the dish. Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4/180oC/350oF. Cook in a bain marie until set. Take out and allow to cool for 10 mins. Pipe a line of whipped cream up the middle of the pudding, sprinkle the grated chocolate over the cream and dust the whole thing with sugar and serve.

The Weekend
Here we are, Its Saturday, and I am at my Caffe-Society Fairtrade Store. It’s the start of the World Famous Yachting Event called Cowes Week. For the next 10 days the whole Island becomes the mecca of the International Sailing scene, especially at Cowes a small town 3 miles north of my Caffe-Society Fairtrade Store. I will be there next week promoting my project, photos to follow. I do prefer sailing to motor yachts, and they are more environmentally friendly so this event is very much a “Green” sport in many ways.
